Recently, we were called to complete an indoor machinery moving job – with our 200 Ton crane! Typically, indoor machinery moving jobs are completed by overhead cranes but this particular job was not able to be completed by the overhead cranes which had been setup. The job required extreme precision with our 200 Ton crane as it featured two loads that weighed 88,000 lbs each and needed to be inserted correctly into pins that were sticking up from the bottom platform. It needed to be placed in an exact location, so even being off by an inch to either side would have caused the job to be incorrect.

There were a few obstacles that we had to overcome first in order to finish the job. The work area was very tight so the crane barely fit. We needed to use the 200 Ton crane since the machines were heavy duty and weighed 88,000 lbs. The total height of the roof was 35 feet and the truck’s boom was 43 feet at its shortest length. There were lights that were hanging from the ceiling that had to be shortened in order to get the crane to move properly within the designated space. Our job was to pick the machinery off of the truck that transported it and place it precisely onto the concrete platform that was built for it. So the crane had to be set up perfectly to complete this task. This is where job planning and lift plans play a big role in what we do. We correctly calculated what radius we needed to be at and what length of boom was needed to complete the job.

Another huge hurdle was rigging. The unit had to be lifted perfectly level and because of the tight space the rigging had to be shortened and still had to maintain capacity for the lift. We were ready for it mostly because of our specialized trailers and rigging that we carry out to every job. We always take all of the rigging and set up the trailers to handle any job any time we are able to so we don’t have any down time on any job. Due to this practice, we were able to complete the job on time and under budget in the safest way possible.

Some companies may shy away from “difficult” jobs like this. But we are confident in our abilities and love being able to problem solve to get the job done right. SAFETY, PRECISION and QUALITY are all things you can count on with The Crane Guys.
