It’s challenging enough to carry out a lift with one crane. But when four of the machines must work in sync, only an extraordinarily-prepared crane rental service could possibly pull the job off. Fortunately, The Crane Guys had exactly what it took to carry out a massive quadruple-crane multi-crane lift for a recent project. Utilized for this job was a formidable 4-crane battalion – 120-ton, 140-ton, 200-ton, and 300-ton.

The Crane Guys definitely had the manpower, machinery, and experience to perform this monumental lift. Still, the unusual requirements of the job would take our skills and resources to the limit. Our mission was clear and direct: set a group of airplane hangar trusses. For this project, each hanger had to be assembled in a predetermined order. This meant that all four cranes would be orchestrated to perform their lifts in a specific sequence. Randomness was not an option — the cranes had to be set up in a specified location, allowing them to remain within the capacity determined by the lift plans.

As part of an experienced crane rental service, The Crane Guys team is well-acquainted with time crunches. This 4-crane lift was no exception. Our client was working within the confines of an extremely tight schedule. We assured the client that the lift would be completed on time and well within the prescribed budget.

Knowing that every nanosecond counted, our planners shifted into high gear and developed an air-tight 3D lift plan — in what seemed like record time. To our satisfaction, the plan was readily approved. We were ready for action.

Indeed, this would be unique among lifts – four cranes working in sync, each strategically deployed to perform with well-timed precision. Facing our crew were the challenges inherent to all multi-crane lifts – positioning, timing, and synchronization would require uncommon expertise.

Meeting All Safety Challenges

Job-site safety presented its own set of challenges. Crews would be dealing with natural elements such as wind. They’d also have to maintain precise communication between operators and signalmen, as well as avoid overloading one crane while lifting another – all while keeping the quartet of cranes in sync.

To meet these safety challenges, crews monitored the wind each day. If the blows were too intense, lifts were cancelled. Proper communication was ensured by frequent radio contact, as well as a lift conductor, who regulated all signals sent to the individual cranes. Safety was furthered strengthened by keeping every crane at a 75% capacity for each lift. As a result of this painstaking care, cranes moved with deliberate slowness – but with very acceptable efficiency.

The Crane Guys is pleased to say that this four-crane, multi-crane lift was a great success, completed on schedule and well within budget. Certainly, our experience, skill, dedication, and preparedness in the field of crane rental services all played a role in this positive outcome.
